Breast Cancer Awareness Banner

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancer among women in India and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Sadly, many cases are detected at advanced stages due to lack of awareness and regular screening. The good news is that early detection can save lives. With the right knowledge, timely screening, and lifestyle choices, women can protect themselves and their families from the devastating impact of breast cancer.

Symptoms Women Should Watch Out For

  • A lump or thickening in the breast or underarm.
  • Change in breast size or shape.
  • Nipple changes – sudden inversion, discharge (especially bloody), or pain.
  • Skin changes – dimpling, redness, or peeling.
  • Persistent breast pain not linked to menstrual cycles.

Why Screening Matters

  • Early breast cancer is often silent and painless.
  • Mammograms can detect tumors years before they are felt.
  • Early detection improves survival rates and reduces the need for aggressive treatments.

  • Baseline mammogram recommended around 40, especially with family history.
Women 50 Years & Above
  • Mammogram every 1–2 years (gold standard).
  • Continue self-examinations and yearly doctor visits.
High-Risk Women
  • Genetic testing (BRCA1/BRCA2) may be advised.
